Derby Preparations
The last two weeks have been a blur building up to the Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs. I had several opportunities to visit the "backside" and watch the horses workout and some of the preparations that took place leading up to the Derby. There are some truly magnificent horses. I fell in love with the most beautiful paint companion horse. I know it is all about the thoroughbreds, but sometimes the saddlebreds just catch your eye with their massive power. I also had the pleasure of watching the blacksmith shoe one of the horses. He was kind enough to answer my questions and explain some of the ins and outs of shoeing a race horse. I hope you enjoy my pictures as much as I did taking them!

Stockyard Bed Races
Every year the Bed Races are a must see. Although this year did not have quite as many near misses at the dreaded "x", it was still packed with excitement and collapsing wheels!

Soap Box Races
Yes, it is Derby time in Louisville! This year the Soap Box Race was added to the festivities leading up to Derby. This is the first "annual" race. We had a couple of drivers take the time to explain all the details of the sport. It is very exciting both for the drivers and those watching. I will certainly want to be there next year.....zoooommmmm!!!!!

Michael and Shannon Session
We had a great time wandering Shelbyville yesterday. A little more sun would have been nice, but that's the way it goes with weather. Congrats to Michael and Shannon on their engagement. We hope they enjoyed working with us as much as we did with them.

Saturday Photo Explorations
Saturday I went to a couple of lovely places to take pictures. I wish things were a bit greener for this trip, but I enjoyed being out in the warmth and the feeling of spring in the air.

Spring has sprung!
I am so excited! Our baby fruit trees we worked so hard to plant, watch and mulch last year (keep in mind we are not originally from areas with real winter) have survived winter!!! All are blooming or budding...
