Churchill Downs Front Side

We are driving the media shuttles all week. Upon suggestion of my friend, I ventured to the top of one of the tower seating areas to get a wonderful view of the track and the infield preparations for Derby Day.

Rest In Peace Aunt Christine

Today we received the sad news that Aunt Christine passed away. She was 86 years old this past February 23. Unfortunately we were never able to make one of her birthday parties, but that is another story. Her passing just served to prove you have to cherish each moment of life you are given because you never know when it will be the last or when decisions will be made that will change life forever. I hope that all who read this will take heed. Those who like to hold grudges don’t just hurt the person they hold judgment against, but countless others whose lives are intertwined. My cousin who passed of cancer many years ago shared his thoughts for life, that is “Live today like you have no tomorrows” and he was so right. There is not guarantee for tomorrow or even the next instant. We hear “life is too short” but do we really listen and believe that? I hope that my life will be summed up to say, she lived every day to the fullest. She loved all and never held a grudge. I will always cherish the fact that the day before her passing, I walked into her nursing home room, her eyes lit up as if she had been waiting for me to come, stretched up her arms and gave me the most incredible hug and said “I love you”. I think I am probably the last person on this earth she hugged. What an incredible blessing from God. See you again someday Aunt Christine. I will miss you.

Churchill Downs Backside

Again I drove the media shuttles for Churchill Downs pre Derby week. While there I took a couple photos. Its always fun to see all the buzz on the backside.

Thunder Over Louisville

Today, Thunder Over Louisville kicked off this year’s Derby festivities and two weeks of fun leading up to the Kentucky Derby! Again it was a spectacular show. This year I sat right at the river’s edge and it felt nearly like ground zero. I was close enough to feel the percussion of the booms. I have to admit, the crowds on the roads after were just a bit of a nightmare, but all in all, I think Thunder is well worth the trouble. I wish I had been able to catch some of the Air Show this year but oh well, there is always next year.

Faces to Love

Now with faces like this, how could you help but love them…Morgan and Sophia.

Rare Irish Basset Hound

We have discovered that we have one of those rare Irish Basset Hounds. We made this discovery after mowing the front yard. It appears that this Irish trait of green is contagious to our other dogs as well.

BBQ Bird Nest

Well so much for thinking I would Bar-B-Que any time soon. It would seem we have new residence in our BBQ. They look like they just hatched in the last day or so.

Indiana Wanderings

Today, I wandered Indiana again for Bridges, Barns and Trestles. If you are interested in purchasing a print, email me for size and pricing information.

First stop was the Huffman’s Mill Covered Bridge in Huffman Indiana.

Next stop was a red Mail Pouch Barn in Jasper Indiana. It was a very well kept barn with a very picturesque pasture next to it. Just off the road.

Then it was on to the Richland-Plummer Creek Covered Bridge in Bloomfield Indiana.

A slight detour from bridges took me to the Tulip Trestle in Richland Creek Valley Indiana, on the way we found a field full of deer grazing.

It was then, onward to Nashville Indiana and the Bean Blossom and Ramp Creek Covered Bridges, I really liked the rustic road to the Bean Blossom Covered Bridge.

After that, the New Brownsville Bridge in Columbus Indiana. This bridge was not as exciting to me because its look has been ruined by the concrete walls built at either end of it.

Next stop, Jennings County Indiana to the Scipio and James Covered Bridges.

The last stop of the day led to a Round barn outside of Brownsville. I really don’t know what town it was in since it was on the way back to the highway as TomTom directed.
