This afternoon I received an explanation for what my husband and I saw in the night’s sky from the Meteorologist at WLKY.
“You are correct! Below is a statement issued by the National Weather Service in Louisville. Kind of crazy, huh? ..DEBRIS FALLING FROM SATELLITES CRASHING IN ORBIT... THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN LOUISVILLE KENTUCKY HAS RECEIVEDPHONE CALLS OF LIGHTS IN THE SKY AND VIBRATIONS SIMILAR TOEARTHQUAKES FELT ACROSS THE LEXINGTON METRO AREA. ACCORDING TONASA...THIS IS LIKELY DUE TO TWO SATELLITES COLLIDING IN ORBIT.NASA HAS INDICATED THAT AN AMERICAN SATELLITE AND RUSSIAN SATELLITECOLLIDED IN ORBIT JUST THIS PAST TUESDAY. THE LIGHTS SEEN IN THE SKYARE PIECES OF DEBRIS FROM THE COLLISION...AND THE VIBRATIONS FELTARE THE SONIC BOOMS CAUSED BY THE FALLING DEBRIS. Matt Milosevich, Meteorologist, WLKY-TV”
I feel like we viewed a part of history that only a few had the privilege of seeing, but I think my legs shook for about an hour after I got home. There is something about flaming debris appearing to come right at you in the pitch black that is rather unnerving.
